Please, read this section very carefully. If you do not abide by these rules and regulations, you may be immediately disqualified or have penalty hours added to your race time.

I. ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

  1. You must stay on the trail at all times.
  2. Do not throw any garbage along the course.

II. EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE & CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS

  1. Please treat the local support and volunteer staff with respect and appreciation at all times.
  2. If during the race, you encounter another runner, referee, staff member as well as guest or tourist who is injured or sick and unable to move on their own, please give priority to assisting that person despite eventual delay.
  3. In case of emergency, first take care of your safety and then help others.
  4. The race course is not on private property owned by the race and will not be closed off to the general public. Please, keep in mind that the trails must be shared with the general public at all times even if it is necessary to slow down or stop for a while.
  5. When the race course passes through public roads you must follow the rules of the road. Be extremely careful because Rebel Trails Marathon passes major roads.

III. REFRESHMENT POINTS & OUTSIDE SUPPORT

  1. Organizers will establish refreshment and control check points at suitable for that purpose places. Food and drinks will be provided at the refreshment points.
  2. Food and drinks at the aid stations are only for the officially registered racers.
  3. The racers shall not get support from outside supporters except at the refreshment points and in case it is extremely indispensable. Pacemakers are not allowed.
  4. At each refreshment point there will be an information board mentioning:

- Name of the point

- Name of next point

- Distance to the next point

- Total elevation gain up to the next point

- Total elevation loss to the next point

- Cut off time to the next point (in case such a restriction is set)

- [option] Available water sources and relative difficulty to the next point.

IV. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE DURING THE RACE AND QUITTING A RACE

  1. In order to ensure race safety, race Organizers will prepare and arrange for rescue and medical assistance during the race at the start/finish area and point “Karandila” as well as transportation of injured racers. However, each participant must recognize and understand that there are risks that may result in injuries and/or accidents associated with trail running. You are responsible for yourself and will be participating in this race at your own risk.
  2. The racers must be aware that it could be time consuming for the rescue team to come in case of emergency.
  3. Doctors and rescue staff have the authority to stop a racer from continuing the race. This will be done by taking off the race number.
  4. If you drop out of the race, you need to try to reach the nearest point where transport will be organized. That is why we strongly recommend you to get informed about the distance and difficulty to the next point before leaving a refreshment point and carefully take into consideration continuing the race. There will be organized transport to the finish line only at the determined for that purpose points.
  5. In the case of an emergency, if you are located between two points and you are not able to reach none of them by your own, please call the Organizers (telephone number printed on the race number). If this is impossible you can call the public emergency number “112” to directly ask for help.

V. EQUIPMENT LIST

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT

Organizers keep the right to inspect your mandatory equipment during the race. You will be disqualified due to lack of any item from the mandatory equipment!

  1. Race number ¹, visible, attached to the equipment or to be provided at each control checkpoint; A map and information card of the race ¹;
  2. A bottle full of water (minimum of 500 ml or 2х250 ml);
  3. At least one energy bar or Snickers;
  4. Wind jacket or waterproof rain jacket (made of waterproof and breathable membrane) depending on the weather;
  5. Whistle;
  6. Mobile phone. Make sure your phone is fully charged before the race.
  7. Survival blanket (minimum size of 130cm x 200cm);

¹Article  1  will be provided by Organizers as part of the starter pack.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT

  2. Maps of the area;
  3. GPS unit with map;
  4. Walking poles;
  5. Sunscreen;
  6. Vaseline/petroleum jelly;
  7. Adequate insurance;
  8. Cash;
  9. Bell;
  10. Sunglasses;
  11. Hat;
  12. Gloves;
  13. Pharmacy equipment.

VI. RACE CANCELLATION

  1. The race organization reserves the right to cancel or cut-short the race for safety reasons.
  2. The race organization reserves the right to cancel the participation of one or more racers if health or life-threatening circumstances occur.
  3. IMPORTANT! Cancellation policy in case of race cancellation due to national or local  restrictions: all registrations will be transferred to Rebel Trails Marathon 2025. In such circumstances, there will be no fee refund but participants will have an opportunity to change their distance or transfer the registration to another participant.  

VII. PROHIBITED ACTIONS

  1. Moving outside the marked route.
  2. Outside supporters at a place different than the refreshment points.
  3. Lack of respect for the instructions given by referees and staff members.
  4. Missing any part of the mandatory equipment.
  5. Not helping a person who needs help.
  6. Usage of non allowed medicaments included in the list of WADA.

VIII. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ATHLETES

  1. All the competitors must be over 18 years old at the start of the race and must sign off a declaration for agreements with the race regulations and a statement of responsibility release.
  2. All the competitors must be aware of the effort in mountain ultra-marathons and be well prepared physically and mentally.
  3. The competitors must be able to handle all the risks and discomfort common to the races of this type, such as fatigue, injuries, bad weather (rain, snow, strong wind, fog, mud, cold and hot weather), orienteering, moving in the dark, etc.

IX. AWARDS

Winners in each category will be awarded periodically at the finish after their arrival without waiting for all racers.

X. CUT-OFF TIME, CONTROL CHECKPOINTS AND REFRESHMENT/CONTROL CHECKPOINTS

Start – Old Elm Tree - European Tree of the Year 2014, simultaneous for all participants - 8:00.

Cut off time 42 km: 9 hours

Control checkpoints (CP) and refreshment/control checkpoints (RCP):

CP 1 – "Kolarska polyana" – 6 km from start.

CP 2 – "Lower lift station" – 8.4 km from start.

RCP 1 and Quarter Marathon finish - "Karandila lake" – 13 km from start.

CP 3 – "Kaloyanovi kuli" – 15.3 km from start.

CP 4 – "Haidushki izvor" – 17 km from start.

RCP 2 and Half Marathon finish – "Karandila Hut" – 21.6 km from start.

CP 5 – "Malka Chatalka Peak" – 22.6 km from start.

CP 6 – "Golyama Chatalka Peak" – 23.6 km from start.

CP 7 – "Mochurite" – 26.2 km from start.

RCP 3 – “Road branch under Balgarka Peak” – 29.7 km from start.

CP 8 – "Balgarka peak" – 30 km from start.

CP 9 – "Kutelka peak" – 32.5 km from start.

CP 10 – "Spas Georgiev" – 39 km from start.

Marathon finish – "Old Elm Tree" – 42 km.

Competitors that have not passed all control check points will be asked to retire from the race.

XI. TRACE

Starts at the Old Elm Tree, European Tree of the year – 2014, near by the monument of Hadzhi Dimitar and goes through whole length of Sliven Main Street. After Rozova Gradina bridge goes towards the monument of Panayot Hitov and Late antique and medieval fortress Tuida, leaves the town, continues on high ridge and reaches  Kolarska Polyana, gets down by Petkova Pyteka and reaches Lower lift station parking, goes on a touristic trail up to the Rock phenomenon Halkata, continues to the famous  Haidushka pyteka, goes on the trail Haidushka pyteka and reaches Karandila Hotel,  crosses Karandila Lake and gets down towards Peschenik Peak. Passes near The Cave of Panayot Hitov and climbs up to the ruins of the antique fortress Kaloyanovi Kuli, gets down towards the cave Haidushkata Bychva and after the cave  Haidushkata Peshtera continues to the famous spring Haiduski Izvor. Climbs to the spring Arhangela and following the ridge reaches Kushbunar. It passes through Karandila Bakery, continues by Karandila Hut, Gylabarnika, Higher Lift Station up to peak Malka Chatalka, goes to Golyama Chatalka Peak, Belite Kaynaci, Mala Planina, Mochurite, Balgarka Peak, Kutelka Peak, gets down towards fortress Marinino Gradishte, Gagovetz, goes on the Alley of Health towards town passing by the monument of Panayot Hitov, Rozova Gradina, Sliven Main Street and finishes at the Old Elm Tree.

Competitors under the age of 18 at the start of the race will be allowed to compete only if their parent or guardian signs off a declaration for agreements with the race regulations and a statement of responsibility release at place.

3. The competitors must be able to handle all the risks and discomfort common to the races of this type, such as fatigue, injuries, bad weather (rain, snow, strong wind, fog, mud, cold and hot weather), orienteering, moving in the dark, etc.
